Introduction of the judge
Mrs. Jan Rual, UK
With my husband I have owned and bred Briards for over 30 years. We have bred more Champions than any other breeder in the UK and Won Best of Breed at Crufts 3 times. We also had the accolade of winning Res in the Working Group at Crufts with Champion Gilcoru Passion D’Brie who was Top Briard in the Uk for 3 Consecutive years and won 36 CC’s. We were Top Uk Breeders for 9 years.
We have visited France on many occasions throughout the years and in the early years were particularly impressed with Fr Ch Fandjo de Lacabru and Onassis du clos des Cedres. At this time it was very expensive to import dogs from abroad as they had to go into quarantine for 6 months. The introduction of the Pets Passport scheme has help bring in new bloodlines to the UK and it has significantly improved our stock.
One of our top winning imports was Champion Cartier Monzerat Calif at Gilcoru.Calif was a son of Ch. Agassi Nadina whos line went back to the famous Onassis. Not only was Calif a wonderful show dog winning numerous CC’s & Best of Breeds, he also won 3 Pastoral Groups and was the Top Winning Briard in the UK for 3 consecutive years, he also produced 4 Uk Champions and between them won over 50 CC’s.
Being a primarily black kennel we decided to import a fawn. Booker du noble nid at Gilcoru produced us some excellent colour fawns with excellent temperements. His lines were superb being litter brother to Fr Ch Balboa du noble nid and half brother of Voodoo du noble nid, who went on to sire French Champions Toupoil and Texel de la chaume du bois dieu. Our latest import is Ch. Forte Negro at Gilcoru Duovarius who arrived in March 2009. He is similarly bred to Calif going back to Agassi Nadina and Onassis du clos des cedres and is very similar in make and shape.
We have also made up Champions in Gt Schnauzers, Beagles and Petit Basset Griffon Vondean.
I have been a committee member of the Briard Association Uk for numerous year and am now the President of the club which I regard as a great honour.
My husband and I have been judging Briards at Championship Show level for over 24years and we have both judged Briards at Crufts.
I judge 13 breeds at Championship show level across the Pastoral, Working and Utility Groups. I also judge the Pastoral Group and Working Groups at Championship show level.
I would like to thank your committee for asking me to judge your Club Show and I’m really looking forward to the appointment.
