RULES FOR THE FINNISH SELECTIONNÉ EVENT

General

The Selectionné is a Breeding Inspection for Briards organized by the Breeding Commission of Suomen Briard ry (the Finnish Briard Club). The event will take place every third  year and it is open to all Briards registered in the kennel clubs of the FCI member countries. These rules have been confirmed by the Breeding Commission on the 17th of July 2005 and by the Committee of the Finnish Briard Club on the 16th of August 2005.

Main Goals

The idea is to collect information on breed specimens and to guide the breeding programme on a comprehensive basis (temperament and health status, conformation).

Examiners/Judges

French judges in particular will be invited as examiners/judges for the event. Seminars for Show Judges can be arranged in connection with the event.

Requirements for the Finnish Selectionné

· Qualification excellent from the conformation judging
  Approval by the Jury
  Officially approved measurements result
  Approved temperament test result or
   a) description of character (MH) with 1-3 result on the steadiness to
      gunshot test
   b) or Working Certificate from Working Trials
HD scoring result A or B
  CSNB-free or PRA/HC - free

Copies of the required official results and tests must be sent  together with the entry form. Only official results of the national kennel clubs are accepted. The Breeding Commission of the Finnish Briard Club is entitled to make further enquiries  in order to validate the results. The Breeding Commission has the right to decide which foreign tests and test results conform with the selectionne requirements.

Entries

The Selectionné event will be advertised in the Newsletter of the Finnish Briard Club.  Entries must be made  on a special entry form, copies of HD-status, temperament test (or MH-description) and CSNB-test must be enclosed.

Conformation

The examiners/judges will use a special form when judging the conformation and movement in detail. A copy of the form will be given to the owner of the dog.  The dogs will be judged with the following qualifications  excellent, très bon = very good , bon = good  or insufficient. Dogs graded  excellent will go forward to a final examination made by the Jury.

Measurements

The dogs will be measured and the results will be entered on a separate form. All dogs will be measured by the same person appointed by the Breeding Commission. The dogs will be measured at withers (height of the dog), length, circumference of the chest and length of the head (length of skull and nose, circumference of the nose).

The Jury

Dogs who have been graded excellent will go forward to the final examination made by  the Jury. The Jury consists of the examiners/judges (and student judges). The dogs will be judged individually by the Jury. The Jury decides whether  the dog will be awarded the Selectionné title or not. The dogs are judged individually and later in joint competition both standing and on the move. If disqualified, the reason will be given in the form.

The Selectionné title

The Selectionné title is awarded  to dogs chosen by the Jury in the final line-up. The title will be announced  one month after the event when all results are validated. In order to obtain the title, eventual missing results must be sent to the Breeding Commission during that time. The Breeding Commission has the right to make further enquiries prior to confirming the title. The Selectionné title is not an official FCI or Finnish Kennel Club title  and  will not be registered as an  official title, e.g. on registration certificates.

Classes and Competition classes

Intermediate class, 9-15 months. Participants in intermediate class will receive a written critique only,  but they do not compete for Selectionné.  Dogs graded excellent will go forward to the competition class, where four of each sex will be placed. The best Junior of the Show will be chosen between the best male and the best female.

Selectionné class, over 15 months. Dogs graded excellent go forward to a further competition class, where four of each sex will be placed. The Best of Breed (BIS Selectionné) will be selected between the best male and the best female.

Information about the official results

The complete results of the Selectionné event will be published in the Newsletter of the Finnish Briard Club and on the internet site of the club. The dogs will be photographed and the photos will be published at the same time with the results.
